The Opportunity
On Call Crew Manager – Settle
Expressions of Interest are invited for the role of Crew Manager based at Settle Fire Station.
The post is conditioned to the Retained Duty System (RDS) in accordance with the Scheme of Conditions of Service.
Salary & Allowances
Employees providing at least 120 hours of cover per week will receive an annual retainer of 15% of their basic pay. Where less cover is provided, the following bands apply:

Additional allowances:
- Drill Fee (Competent) £40.86 (for an average of 2 hours per week)
- Training Course attendance
- Disturbance Allowance payable when called out to an incident
- Hourly fees in line with National Joint Council (NJC) agreed rates
Payment schedule: Retained duties are paid in arrears on the 25th day of each month.
Availability & Contract Conditions
- You will declare your availability weekly on drill nights to the Officer in Charge.
- Any changes to declared availability must be requested in writing using the EST5/C form, available on the intranet. Approval is required from your Station Manager.
- Unapproved changes that do not meet service requirements may lead to contract termination.
Leave Entitlement
- 4 weeks per year (rising to 5 weeks after 5 years' service).
- Leave is taken at the individual’s discretion, with agreement from the On Call Officer in Charge.
- Holiday pay is calculated based on the previous year's average pay (or the average of the last 12 weeks if a full year has not been completed).
- Leave year: 1st January – 31st December.
- Any annual leave not taken during the leave year shall be forfeited, except where discretion is given by the fire authority to carry it forward until 31st March of the following year.
Training & Development
- You are required to attend weekly drill nights at your nominated station for training and maintenance (average of 2 hours per week).
- You must be willing to attend training courses as required.
Eligibility Criteria
- Be an existing Crew Manager, or have completed a Crew Manager development programme
OR
- Be a Firefighter who is competent in role, having completed a Firefighter development programme
- You must not be in possession of any formal disciplinary sanctions at the point of application.
- You must not be subject to any formal development plans for performance related issues at point of application.
- You must be medically fit to undertake the role of Crew Manager.
- You must be willing to undertake an enhanced (DBS) check.
- All operational training must be in date and in line with your current service training policy.
- You must have a satisfactory PDPR, Appraisal or equivalent.
- If successful, you will be expected to attend Training Courses.
